OPTA Events

Over the course of a winter the Ojibway Power Toboggan Accociation hosts or is a part of numerous event in Sioux Lookout. These events include the annual Christmas parade, Driver Training courses , Snowarama and our Poker Derby.

Poker Derby

For 2012, our Poker Derby will take place on February 4. A pre-registration dinner will be held at our club house on Abram Lake Road on the 3rd of February from 6 pm-10 pm. Registration on the 4th will take place from 9:30 am-11:30 am at the club house and ALL riders must complete the derby by 4 pm. The post derby social will be held at the Forrest Inn Starting at 8 pm, age of majority required.

Forest Inn will given a rate of $114.95 for double rooms (two queen beds) and $94.95 for single rooms (one queen bed) to all riders that are staying at the Forest Inn the weekend of the Poker Derby. This rate also includes a full breakfast (French Toast, Pancakes, Omelets, Cereals, Bagels, Juices, Tea & Coffee) from 8 am to 10 am daily + free internet. It might be convenient for riders for the dance!

Snowarama

Snowarama for Easter Seals Kids is the annual snowmobiling fundraising event, which takes place in over 20 communities across Ontario, in support of Ontario's children and youth with physical disabilities. Easter Seals is proud to celebrate over 35 years of community commitment, dedicated to Snowarama for Easter Seals Kids.

Snowarama combines winter fun and community spirit, as participants collect pledges in support of Easter Seals kids. Famous wrestler Whipper Billy Watson started Snowarama in 1975, raising over $130,000 in its first year with 12 events across Ontario.

Snowarama 2012 will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 starting at the OPTA Clubhouse on Abram Lake Road in Sioux Lookout. Registration starts at 9:00 am and we will head out on the trail at 10:00 or 10:30 am. Snowmobilers without trail permits that wish to participate must trailer to Hudson and meet us at the East Side Cafe at 11:00 or 11:30 am. The Lac Seul Police Service will guide us as a group to the Kejick Bay sand banks and on to Mahkwa Lodge where lunch will be provided. Premium gas can be purchased here as well.

We will then head back to Hudson and on to the Sioux Lookout's OPTA Clubhouse for presentations of certificates. Here we will find out the total amount of money raised for this year.

We ask that each participant raise at least $50.00, but any amount would be appreciated.
